Road and bridge improvements in
Missouri are funded through a number of revenue sources,
including the state motoer fuels tax and the Federal Highway
Trust Fund.
 |
Funding
|
- Missouri will get some $75 million less
transportation dollars from the federal government in the
upcoming fiscal year.
- In its most recent report to Congress, USDOT
reported that all levels of government (federal, state
and local)
would need to increase their investment by nearly $20 billion
- to $84 billion annually - just to maintain current operational
conditions on U.S. highways and bridges.
Taxes
- Missouri ranks 43rd nationally in state
tax revenue per capita and as a percent of personal income.
- Missouri’s state sales tax rate is
lowest among its eight neighboring states (state
comparison).
- Of the 46 states with state sales taxes,
only 10 have lower rates than Missouri’s.
- Missouri’s fuel tax is third-lowest
among its neighboring states.
